We are greatly encouraged by the bi-partisan coalition that came out today with a real plan for comprehensive immigration form that will give millions of undocumented immigrants in the US a chance to stay here legally, and provide a course for citizenship in due time. Finally, a real plan and bi-partisan support! Now let us pray for quick and complete passage.
Numbers 15:15 The community is to have the same rules for you and for the foreigner residing among you; this is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord:
A bipartisan group of senators officially rolled out its proposal for comprehensive immigration reform at a Monday afternoon press conference, with high hopes that a deal could be enacted this spring.
The proposal — which would immediately allow the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrations living in the U.S. to register for legal status — is expected to be filed as legislation by the beginning of March.
The Gang of Eight senators who formally introduced the proposal include Democrat Sens. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), Bob Menendez (N.J.) and Dick Durbin (Ill.) and Republican Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.), who couldn’t attend the press conference.
The announcement came a day before President Barack Obama is slated to deliver an immigration speech in Las Vegas, Nev.
Schumer explained that he and Durbin spoke with Obama on Sunday about the agreement and that the president was “delighted” with the consensus.
