Wonderful news this morning that should have Christians and all people of faith rejoicing: millions of our nation’s poor and low income families and individuals will get to keep their health care! The Supreme Court has put the final seal on the deal today that the Affordable Care Act will not be dismantled and there will be no further challenge to the law – fair and affordable health care is here to stay.
Over the past several years, Obamacare has proven it will create jobs, not destroy them, and bring down the soaring costs of healthcare, not increase them. And even though Republicans in office and running for president are expressing their deep disappointment at the SCOTUS ruling and vowing to repeal the law, they have no current direction or united idea of replacement for the law. When asked what their plan would be for millions of people losing their healthcare, there is no answer. If the silence means they would leave the people without any form of health care…which is evidenced by Republican governors refusing Medicaid expansion in their states…then this is simply morally as well as politically unacceptable.
According to scripture, from the Psalms to the words of Christ, a community who cares for their poor will be blessed…the United States will be blessed because of this decision today.
